Studies investigating the relationship between team personality characteristics and team performance typically aggregate the personality results of the team members. The most common aggregations in this context are the average and the variance.
The team average describes the center of the members’ personalities. It is sometimes referred to as ‘team elevation’.
The team variance describes how spread out the members’ personalities are. It is sometimes referred to as the ‘variability’, ‘diversity’ or ‘heterogeneity’ of the team.
