Why We Have a Fair Play Policy

Applying for jobs takes time and effort. The Fair Play Policy helps ensure that:

  • All candidates have an equal opportunity to show how they fit a role.

  • No one gains an unfair advantage by breaking the rules.

  • Hiring companies can make informed, evidence‑based decisions using trustworthy test results.

In short, the policy sets a clear, shared standard for how tests should be taken.

What Counts as a Violation (and What Does Not)

The Fair Play Policy is there to prevent a single candidate from gaining an unfair advantage over others in the same process. You need to agree to these rules before you can take a test.

Examples of behaviour that violates the Fair Play Policy:

  • Asking someone else to take a test for you, or taking help from other people

  • Sharing assignments or tests with people outside the recruitment process

  • Attempting to manipulate tests or test results

  • Using AI or large language models to answer for you

Examples of behaviour that does not violate the Fair Play Policy:

  • Practising on similar tests beforehand

  • Reading about personality or logic assessments

  • Taking a break in a way that does not break the test rules

💡Note: The policy is not meant to punish reasonable, common‑sense behaviour. It is focused on actions that clearly create an unfair advantage over other candidates.

If You Accidentally Do Something Wrong

The Fair Play rules are there to keep things fair, not to “catch out” candidates acting in good faith.

If you do something that is considered a breach of the policy:

  • This will be shown to you after you complete the test.

  • You may be given a chance to explain what happened.

  • The hiring company will see that a potential violation occurred when they review your results.

The goal is to give both you and the hiring company transparency about what happened, so they can decide on the right next step.

What Is Shared With the Hiring Company

We believe in openness between candidates and hiring companies.

If a violation is detected during a test:

  • It is shown both to you after test completion and to the hiring company together with your results.

  • The hiring company may ask you to retake an assessment under supervision to validate your original result.

This helps them confirm that your final score accurately reflects your abilities.

What We Actually Track

During a test, Alva monitors the browser session for behaviours that we know can create a potentially unfair advantage compared to other applicants.

  • We focus only on signals that are relevant to the assessment process.

  • We avoid any methods that are intrusive to your privacy.

  • Tests run in your web browser, and you do not need to install any software on your computer to take Alva’s tests.

  • Monitoring is carried out using information accessible via your browser only.

💡Note: We do not track anything beyond what is needed to protect the fairness and integrity of the test.
